Dear Residents:

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) has rescheduled the next District of Columbia Takoma Transportation Study Public Meeting to Wednesday, March 29,2003. The meeting wiil still be held at 6896 Laurel Avenue at the Washington Theological Union. The city of Takoma Park, Maryland's next scheduled meeting on this study is Thursday, March 20,2003 and will be held at 7500 Maple Avenue, the Takoma Park, Maryland Municipal Building.

At each of these meetings, DDOT, the city of Takoma Park and our consultants will:

1. Provide residents with an update on progress made since our last meetings in December 2002.

2. Provide residents with a summary of the Takoma Transportation Study Existing Conditions Report and the suggested transportation improvements found within that document.

3. Provide an opportunity for residents to review and comment on the preliminary suggested transportation improvements resulting from the study.

Summaries of the Takoma Transportation Study Existing Conditions Report, along with the suggested improvements are currently available at your local libraries.

DDOT, the city of Takoma Park, and our consultants will take all of the accumulated information from the upcoming March 19th and 20th Public Meetings, generate a Draft Final Report and present the findings to your communities on Thursday, May 15,2003 at Takoma Baptist Church, which is located at 635 Aspen Street, NW., and again on Thursday, May 22, 2003 at the Takoma Park, MD Municipal Building. 2000 14th Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20009 (202) 671-2730

The Guiding Princiules of the Takoma Transportation Study Public Meetings are:

* Promote a comprehensive transportation approach and implement Transit Oriented Development (TOD) initiatives for mixed-use and commercial developments throughout the Takoma DC, Takoma Park, MD and Lamond Riggs communities that improve the quality of life for all residents.

* Listen to residents through a community participation process that takes neighborhood concerns to heart and incorporate citizen recommendations.

* Reduce commuter and cut through traffic along local streets by introducing traffic calming measures and reduce congestion on major roadways within area communities.

2. Status Report:

Update of DDOT, Takoma Park, and DMJM Harris work since December

3. Existing Conditions Summary: This summary provides an update on current and future issues, as well as the existing transportation conditions and suggested solutions to each of these problems.

Open House Format: During this segment of the meeting, please circulate around the room and review each of the Issue Area Boards. Examine our compiled findings and feel free to make additional recommendations to our lists.
